It’s a Circus Out There

I wrote, produced, and directed this quirky play, which uses an allegory of the circus to highlight our current political environment. Reviews for this show were phenomenal: DC Theatre Scene gave us 5 stars and called us “A Pick of the Fringe.” DC Metro Theatre Arts gave us 4 1/2 stars and called us “Best of the 2015 Fringe.”

Some brief updates from 2014:

-Wrote a short play, “Battle Tactics,” for LiveArtDC’s first annual fundraiser “Live Art in a Day,” a 24 hour play festival.

-Co-wrote, produced and directed “Susan Destroys the World” with Frozen Penguin Productions for the 2014 Washington, DC 48 Hour Film Project, May 2014.

-Wrote, produced and directed “The Inaugural Election for President of Mrs. Jacobson’s Sixth Grade Class” for the Federal Theatre Project, July 2014.

-Adapted and directed “Oedipus the King” for Lean and Hungry Theater, November 2014.

-Directed a re-gendered scene from Love’s Labour’s Lost for Brave Spirits Theatre, December 2014

-Directed a one-night benefit performance of “A Klingon Christmas Carol” for WSC Avant Bard, December 2014.

Julius Caesar

For the second time in two years, I will direct an adaptation of Julius Caesar, this time for Lean & Hungry Theater. On October 27th, we will broadcast this production live. Our adaptation focuses on the Occupy Wall Street Movement, setting Shakespeare’s classic story of ambition and desire against the backdrop of a nation that is fed up with the disparity of wealth.

Tickets will go on sale fall 2013.

Someone To Watch Over Me show imageIn 2012, I formed the Federal Theatre Project. This July, we will debut our first production as a part of the Capital Fringe Festival, a world premiere I’ve written entitled Someone To Watch Over Me. The show features Robin Covington, Genna Davidson, Stefanie Garcia, Paul McLane, Thony Bienvenido Mena and Paul Thomas Truitt.

An Adaptation of Julius Caesar

I directed Molotov Theatre Group’s An Adaptation of Julius Caesar. The show ran March 15-April 7, 2012, at THE SHOP at FORT FRINGE. Adapted by Shawn Northrip, the cast included Evan Crump, Genevieve James, Brandon Mitchell, Angela Kay Priko, James Radack, Jennifer Speerstra, Jessica Thorne, and Brian Wahlquist. Miles Folley was the stage manager. Designers included Alex Zavistovich (Fight Choreography/Effects), Heather Whitpan (Costumes), Jason Aufdem-Brinke (Lighting), Mehdi Raoufi (Sound) and Koki Lortkipanidze (Composition).

Hamlet

I adapted and directed a radio drama adaptation of Hamlet for Lean and Hungry Theatre. The adaptation was broadcast live on WAMU 88.5 FM on Sunday, October 30, 2011. You can listen to the recording here.

This version of the play is set in plantation era South Carolina in the 1860s. The ethnically diverse cast of “Hamlet” includes Patricia Dugueye, Azania Dungee, Michael Harris, Shannon Listol, Paul McLane, Barbara Papendorp, Brandon Rice, Robert Sheire and Alex Zavistovich. The assistant director and dramaturg is Hannah Todd. Special effects and musical underscore provided by Lean & Hungry Technical Director Gregg Martin.
